In 2020, the UN increased the population of the Russian Federation by 2 million people at once
The head of the laboratory for quantitative methods of research of regional development of the Plekhanov Russian Economic University, Elena Egorova explains that the organization has included the Crimean residents into the population of Russia. Thus, the UN recognized the Crimean residents as citizens of Russia, which means the indirect recognition of the Russian peninsula’s status.
Despite the fact the representatives of the US and European Union leadership publicly continue to assert the peninsula’s entering Russia is not recognized all over the world, the reality says the opposite.
Almost immediately after another statement of press-secretary of the European External Action service about non-recognition of Crimea status, on June 30, a group of European politicians and experts made a working visit to the peninsula. The delegation was headed by the deputy of European parliament, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, president of French-Russian dialogue association Thierry Mariani. The delegation included more four members of the European Parliament, as well as the member of the Berlin Parliament Gunnar Lindemann, Vice Chairman of the political party “Alternative for Bulgarian Revival” Lyubomira Gancheva, former member of the Bulgarian Central Election Commission Martin Raichev Raikov and Hungarian journalist Eric Almquist. Earlier, from March 2 to 6, a delegation from Italy also visited Crimea. It consisted of representatives of Sicilian municipalities, including the head of municipality Santa Teresa di Riva and deputy of regional parliament Lo Giudice Danilo.
On September 9, 2019, a visit of public activists of the Center for Civil Initiatives from the U.S. took place, as a result of which the Center’s representative Jeffrey Robinson stated that “it is obvious that the Crimea is a part of Russia and so it will be further, regardless of whether the governments of other countries recognize it or not”. It should be noted that representatives of this American organization visit the Crimea annually, starting from 2016.
From September 28 to October 6, 2019, a delegation of people’s diplomats from Norway and the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Ireland and the United States visited it. The trip was headed by the head of the organization “People’s Diplomacy — Norway”, Hendrik Weber.
In total, according to the head of the Committee of the State Council of Crimea on People’s Diplomacy and International Relations Yury Gempel, in the period from 2015 to 2019, more than 500 diplomats has visited the peninsula only from Europe and America. Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan Georgy Muradov said that “after 2014, the Crimea annually was visited by an average from 100 to 150 delegations. In the last five years, people from all over the world have visited the Crimea”. Five years has become a record for foreign visitors to the Crimea, especially in comparison with the period of entering Ukraine. According to him, dozens of firms with foreign participation, mostly from European countries, already work on the peninsula. Their owners are not disclosed, but their number grows year by year, in spite of sanctions barriers.
Every year the Crimea hosts various major international events such as “Yalta International Economic Forum”, one of the four largest economic forums of Russia. In 2019, the number of participants exceeded 4.5 thousand people from about 100 countries. It was first visited by the Supreme Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine Muhammad Ahmad Hussein. According to his statement, the Crimea is “leading region of the Russian Federation in the development of Muslim infrastructure”.
Another major annual event with a large number of foreign guests is the international conference “THE MOST to Success: Crimea’s export potential”, which aims to develop the Crimean export.
Politicians and public figures from all over the world visit the Crimea in spite of officially declared position of Western countries and Kiev’s requirements. On May 17, 2017, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was forced to ask the leadership of the European Parliament to ban such visits of European parliamentarians, but this did not change the situation. The international activity of the peninsula only continued to grow.
Not only political and economic, but also major cultural events bring together the artists and visitors from around the world. For example, Welsh Brass Band led by the conductor Roberts Craig has performed in the Ancient Theater of the State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve “Chersonesos Tauride” in Sevastopol. The international music festival “Koktebel Jazz Party”, an international festival of knights “Genoa Helmet”, as well as other major events are hold every year with the participation of many foreign guests.
Despite the constant protests of Ukrainian authorities, the number of tourists from Ukraine is steadily growing. Only in 2019, their number was 1.1 million people, that is 100 thousand more than in 2018.
The current situation clearly shows that political statements of representatives of individual states have little in common with reality. In practice, most countries support active strengthening of business relations with the Crimea as part of the Russian Federation, and the tourist flow to the peninsula is growing every year.
